The Arts

Bay Saint Louis was designated one of the 10 best small arts towns in the United States - a reputation we're still fostering. Our numerous area artists have played a vital role in the city's recovery efforts. Here's a recent (5/14/08) Christian Science Monitor article about how the arts are playing a big part in the revival of Bay St. Louis.

Our "Second Saturday Art Walk" was an established and popular regional event before Katrina, drawing both locals and visitors from a three state region. It was the first city event to reestablish itself after the storm and has remained an economic and psychological anchor for the community.

We're proud that despite the devastation wrought in our city, Second Saturday never missed a beat. Just twelve days after the storm, a small group of artists gathered at the foot of Main St. (flashlights in hand) and celebrated the survival and strength of the city's spirit.

"The Arts - Hancock County" is an umbrella organization that has worked tirelessly to promote and sustain our local community of visual and performing artists, musicians and writers.

The Mississippi Arts Commission has provided an enormous amount of support to the arts in Bay St. Louis. We're proud that MAC director Malcolm White is owner of a historic home in "Old Town." For more information on their wide range of programs, visit the MAC website by clicking on the link above.
